Peat-Free General Purpose Compost in a Bulk Bag

Our General Purpose Compost is a nutrient-rich, peat-free material screened to approximately 10mm for a consistent and easy-to-handle blend. Supplied in a bulk bag, it is well suited to larger garden projects where small retail bags would be inconvenient or uneconomical. The compost is PAS 100 approved and produced from recycled organic material, helping improve soil while supporting a more sustainable approach to gardening.

Screening removes oversized pieces and clumps, making the compost easier to spread and incorporate into existing soil. Each bag weighs approximately 850kg, with some natural variation according to moisture content.

Getting the best from your compost

For soil improvement, spread the compost evenly and cultivate it into the upper layer of the existing ground. When creating a new bed, blend it with good-quality topsoil rather than using compost alone as a deep fill. As a surface mulch, apply it around established plants while keeping the material clear of stems and trunks.

General purpose compost provides organic matter and nutrients, but the needs of individual plants can vary. Specialist plants, young seedlings and long-term container planting may require a dedicated growing medium. For larger beds and landscaping areas, measure the surface and intended depth before ordering. Improving garden soil with compost

It can also be applied as a mulch around established plants, where it gradually integrates into the ground. Avoid piling compost directly against woody stems, trunks or the crowns of plants.

A compost bulk bag is a convenient option for landscapers and gardeners improving a substantial area. It reduces packaging compared with numerous small bags and allows the material to be barrowed directly to beds around the property. Although this is a versatile soil improver, it should not automatically be used undiluted for every plant or purpose. Blend it with screened topsoil when building new beds and use a specialist medium where a plant has precise drainage or acidity requirements. If you are preparing ground for turf, topsoil should provide the main rooting layer, with compost incorporated only where additional organic matter is beneficial.
