10mm Screened Topsoil for Lawns and Gardens

Our 10mm screened topsoil is a versatile, fine-textured soil for landscaping projects where a consistent finish matters. Screening removes larger stones, roots and debris, creating a workable material that is easier to spread, rake and level than unscreened soil. It is an excellent choice for preparing new lawns, laying turf, improving beds and borders, filling planters and completing general garden improvements.

The finer structure allows new roots to penetrate the soil readily while supporting a useful balance of drainage and moisture retention. It can also be blended with compost where additional organic matter is required. Each bulk bag contains approximately 850kg; because topsoil is a natural material, moisture content and final bag weight can vary slightly.

Screened or unscreened topsoil?

Screened topsoil is processed to produce a more consistent texture. This makes it preferable for finished garden areas, lawns and planting schemes, where large stones or debris would make preparation difficult. Unscreened soil can be economical for deep filling and raising levels, but it normally requires more work before planting or turfing.

Before ordering, measure the length and width of the area and decide the finished depth required. Spread the material in manageable layers, lightly firm it and rake the surface level before planting, sowing or laying turf.

Why choose 10mm screened topsoil?

The 10mm grade is particularly useful when the finished surface will be visible or needs to be cultivated for shallow-rooting plants and grass. Its finer consistency is easier to grade accurately beneath fresh turf and is less likely to leave large pieces that interfere with raking or seed-to-soil contact. For lawn preparation, it provides a clean working surface that can be levelled and firmed before turf rolls are installed.

Garden topsoil should provide structure as well as a practical planting medium. The mineral content supports drainage and stability, while naturally occurring organic matter helps hold moisture and nutrients. Where an existing soil is very sandy, heavy or depleted, combining screened topsoil with an appropriate soil improver can create a more balanced growing environment.

The bag must be placed at the nearest safe and accessible point selected by the driver; lifting over walls, fences or hedges is not available.
